Remote hearing aid technology

BSHAA Education Working Group Webinar to be held on 15th July 2026 at 12.30

Join host Jayne Bryce, BSHAA Director of Professional Development, the BSHAA Education Working Group, and guest presenter Tony MurphySenior Wireless Communications SpecialistSonova UK Limited, for a BSHAA Education Working Group Webinar on Remote hearing aid technology.

Hearing in noise is still one of the main challenges for hearing technologies.  AI has proved hugely beneficial but even with this, it is still dependent on the signal that comes from the hearing aid microphone and this is limited.  The useful range of a hearing aid microphone is still around 2 meters, less in challenging acoustic situations.  The only solution currently is to use additional wireless technologies to overcome these challenges.  Previously this was only analogue FM technology but now there is a plethora of wireless technologies that can provide substantial benefits for the patient in terms of inclusivity in the modern world and improving communication in the workplace or, with family and friends.  There will undoubtably be more technologies used in hearing devices.  However, it can be confusing at times understanding the reality behind them.  It is not the case that one is better than the other.  This talk aims to discuss these technologies and how the appropriate use of each and the benefits that can be achieved with patients.
